Brentford hold talks with Genk over midfielder Mike Tresor as they eye up move for Belgium international in bid to strengthen Thomas Frank’s squad this summer

  • Brentford are understood to have spoken with Genk over playmaker Mike Tresor
  • Tresor, who has two caps for Belgium, caught the eye in the Jupiler Pro League
  • The Bees are keen to bolster Thomas Frank’s side after their European charge

Brentford have spoken to Genk about attacking midfielder Mike Tresor.

The club are planning to strengthen Thomas Frank’s squad this summer and have set their sights on Tresor, a full-fledged international for Belgium.

Indeed, it is believed that the 24-year-old playmaker is a target and a discussion is understood to have been held over the potential signing.

Tresor caught the eye in the Jupiler Pro League last season, having scored eight goals and registered 24 assists from his 42 appearances.

Unsurprisingly, his performances have attracted interest ahead of the new campaign and Brentford, looking to build on their ninth-placed finish, are keen.

He is tied down to a contract that runs until 2025 but Genk may be open to selling.

The very fact that talks have been held suggests that the switch is progressing, although it is not currently known how much Brentford are willing to pay.

Tresor was previously linked with Burnley and admitted the interest was flattering.

‘I have learned that he (Vincent Kompany) appreciates my qualities,’ he admitted, speaking to Belgian outlet Het Laatste Nieuws. ‘Of course, that is nice to hear.’
